Our Regulatory Compliance Unit is all about protecting what matters - the safety of our residents, the integrity of our environment, and the wellbeing of our communities. Within this unit, our Compliance & Investigations team leads the charge when it comes to investigating breaches and ensuring our compliance activities are fair, effective, and grounded in law. We work across a wide range of legislation - including the Building Act 2004, Resource Management Act 1991, and Local Government Acts 1974 & 2002 - to uphold standards and support positive outcomes for our city.
**About the role | Ko te mahi nei**
This is a role where you'll manage your own caseload, make informed decisions, and contribute to meaningful outcomes for our city and its people. You'll be investigating breaches, interpreting legislation, and taking action under the Building Act, Resource Management Act, and Local Government Acts.
Your day might include:
- Managing your own caseload with confidence and care.
- Providing advice on environmental compliance and enforcement.
- Responding to complaints and assessing potential breaches.
- Gathering and analysing information to support investigations.
You'll be part of a collaborative team that leans on each other for advice, knowledge sharing, and support, but you'll also have the freedom to own your work and drive it forward.

You're a self-starter with a sharp eye for detail and a strong sense of accountability. You know how to manage your time, your workload, and your relationships.You're a natural communicator and problem-solver, with a knack for building trust and navigating complex situations. You're a calm problem-solver; balancing risk, resolution, and community impact.
You'll bring:
- Minimum diploma, degree level tertiary qualification or relevant work experience in one or more of the following: Building Industry, Resource Management or Enforcement.
- Strong oral and written communication skills - you know how to tailor your message to your audience.
- Conflict resolution skills and a calm, solutions-focused approach.
- Confidence using technology and digital tools to manage your work.
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a close-knit team.
