Are you looking for an opportunity to make a difference for New Zealand by promoting compliance with New Zealand immigration system legislation and identifying ways to make the immigration system safer? This role might be for you?

We at MBIE is currently seeking for a Compliance Manager who will lead our dedicated Porirua team to address both systemic and responsive compliance issues. In this role, you will be utilising your experience and expertise in compliance management. You will be expected to support appropriate decision-making and mandated action in the event of breaches, detentions, and deportations. You will also be sharing your statutory knowledge to support legal action in conjunction with other key agencies and manage important issues such as family considerations.

As a Compliance Manager, you provide specialist input and advice to identify and address risks to the immigration system, and expert support and advice on complex cases including managing risk and assessment at the earliest point in the immigration process. You will carefully balance legislative powers with ethical and humanitarian considerations.

You will develop strategies, work programmes and performance targets for the team's work, and monitor performance against these with your team, establishing clear accountabilities, expectations and performance standards.

You'll build strong relationships within MBIE and with national and international organisations, to identify and share best practice information and ensure MBIE's views are influential in decision making.

As Compliance Manager, you will have proven experience in leading complex regulatory or compliance activity, including cross agency collaboration and dealing with complex cases which may include incomplete / ambiguous information. You will demonstrate a strong track record of achieving results.

- Have experience in developing and maintaining key networks with stakeholders.
- Have led, coached, and mentored teams/ individuals to achieve results and professional growth.
- Have applied risk management concepts and techniques to decision-making.
- Have demonstrated ability to lead and influence without formal lines of authority, including in operational contexts.
- Demonstrate a strong action orientation and the proven ability to support cultural change and drive results.
- Have experience in developing and maintaining an environment focused on continuous improvement to enhance team performance and simplify work processes.
- Have a tertiary qualification, preferably in a relevant field or comparable relevant experience.
