**Te whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity**
Join Beca’s progressive and growing ecology and environmental team in this intermediate Ecologist role, with a focus across freshwater and native fauna. You will be working with a team with a reputation for excellence in practice, a collaborative and team-oriented style who share a passion for the importance of ecological assessments. Our clients include central and local government, network utility providers, iwi and private organisations across New Zealand and Australia.
Other key role components include:
- Deliver ecological services on behalf of our clients, with support from the broader team
- Lead and undertake ecological field investigations including the handling of fauna (aquatic and/or terrestrial) when required
- Contribute to the preparation of proposals to clients
- Maintain and develop great relationships with internal and external clients
- Uphold and promote the Beca key values of partnership, tenacity, enjoyment, and care
- Engaging and collaborating with iwi to help conserve our native taonga species
As part of the Environmental & Sustainability Advisory section, you will be part of a team of over 60 environmental scientists and sustainability advisors located throughout New Zealand, who are focused on shaping environmental and sustainability outcomes.
**Mōu ake | About you**
This role will enable you to bring your passion for the environment and ecology experience to help solve real world client problems. You will enjoy working with people from a range of backgrounds, including with clients to understand their needs. You will provide robust ecological advice, solutions, and technical assessments to improve environmental outcomes.
This is a broad role where ideally your background will include an understanding and experience in:
- Field experience that includes ecosystem and species survey, capture/relocation in a New Zealand ecology context
- Knowledge and experience in freshwater, wetland and/or native fauna ecology
- An understanding of natural resource management and conservation in NZ
- Proven ability in data analysis and interpretation
- Strong communication and writing skills
- A degree in ecology, freshwater science, or related discipline
- A good understanding of the New Zealand’s legislative and planning framework
