**Who we are**:
PikPok is Aotearoa New Zealand’s oldest and largest video game developer and publisher. We strive to successfully provide rich game experiences, crafted by talented teams who are curious, take ownership, and collaborate well. We are committed to providing a safe and supportive workplace that enables our teams to make games which will be enjoyed worldwide across mobile, desktop, and console.
**About the Role**:
We’re looking for a skilled Senior Programmer who knows how to work with people and write high quality code. Games are collaborative exercises, and we want someone who’ll succeed through their interactions with all disciplines, not just other programmers. You should have lots of experience debugging tricky problems, and should be able to design your way to a solution - whatever might come across your desk. You should also have prior knowledge of game development, but we’re not too concerned where you got it.
**The Senior Programmer’s responsibilities include**:
- Creating, testing, and maintaining code, systems, and tools in support of the development of our game projects. Identifying areas of code for reuse or those in need of refactor, and executing on this as appropriate.
- Working with game development teams as required, proactively identifying technical opportunities and risks, and raising these with project leadership.
- Mentoring more junior staff in programming and architecture.
**Requirements**:
- Proven and highly developed coding and debugging skills, with specific knowledge of C# and/or C++
- Good understanding of software design and architecture, specifically within the context of game development
- Strong experience working with version control systems, for example Git, Perforce, SVN or Plastic
- An established background in game development, with direct, on-project experience
- An aptitude for learning new skills and technologies, paired with a desire to expand one’s knowledge base
- The ability to communicate effectively and with confidence
- A positive ‘can-do’ attitude, great work ethic and strong sense of initiative
- Proven workflow, task management and scheduling skills
- A willingness to mentor, support and inspire others
- Familiarity with Agile development practices
- A developed understanding of (and appreciation for) video games as a creative medium
- Experience working with the Unity game engine is desirable
