**Ko ake mahi - What you'll do**
This is a senior position for a strategic thinker geared with a strong drive to achieve results, who is passionate about better protecting our health and disability consumers' rights. Sitting within a small team of advisors and clinicians, the key role of the senior advisor will be to:
- Provide strategic and operational support to the Director of Mental Health and Addiction,
- Initiate, develop and maintain effective working relationships,
- Add value to the work of others through quality assurance, peer review, mentoring and coaching,
- Support the management of key high-risk projects and issues,
- Provide high quality advice and analysis.

**Ko pūkenga - What you'll bring**
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of the mental health and addictions system,
- Experience leading projects and implementing initiatives and change at a local, regional or national level,
- Excellent written, oral and presentation skills and the ability to talk and write clearly about issues for a range of audiences and stakeholders,
- Good time management and organisational skills with the ability to think ahead, establish priorities, and plan accordingly,
- Interest in mental health, human rights and the law

The Director of Mental Health and Addictions has statutory responsibility for administering Mental Health, Substance Addiction and Intellectual Disability legislation. New Zealand's compulsory treatment frameworks are strongly focused on the rights of consumers. We support services to deliver effective mental health, addiction treatment and compulsory care for their areas of responsibility. We administer protective mechanisms that aim to ensure that any compulsory intervention only reduces a consumer's rights to the extent necessary for treatment and care to be effective.
