We currently have a vacancy for a motivated Occupational Therapist to join our multi-disciplinary team.
As we are an acute service, you will be working with a diverse group of patients requiring various levels of support. Essential skills required are the ability to problem solve and maintain composure in a busy environment and maintain a positive attitude.
We welcome people that have a patient/ Whanau centred approach in their work and a good understanding of health inequalities for Maori and pacific people.
To further support staff with their development we are supportive of ongoing training and professional development for all staff.
**Mō tō mātou rōpū - About our team**
Te Whare Ahuru provides services for people experiencing an episode of acute mental illness that requires a safe environment with intensive nursing and medical treatment.
The team offers specialist services for people with moderate to severe mental health problems, and offer assessment, treatment and support to assist the individual and their whanau and other support people in their recovery journey with the aim of supporting people back to having their health care provided in primary health care services. The focus of the service is on providing evidenced based treatment interventions for those people who present with more complex needs and higher risks.
The multi-disciplinary team consists of Psychiatrists, registrars, house surgeons, occupational therapists, social workers, nurses and mental health support workers.
**Moū - About you**
Applicants should have:
Essential
- Degree or equivalent occupational therapy qualification
- OTNZ registered
- Clinical placements and or clinical experience applicable to the role
Desirable
- Accredited Practice placement supervision training
- Coaching skills
- Sensory training
- Member of the Occupational Therapy New Zealand Whakaroa Ngangahau Aotearoa (professional Association)
**Experience**
Essential
- Interest in the relevant Mental health area
- Mental health OT clinical experience
- Knowledge of MOHOST assessments
- Understanding of the needs of the particular clients within setting
Desirable
- Experience of specific mental health speciality
- Research and audit experience
- Experience in Service or treatment audit
- Knowledge of trauma informed care
- Demonstrated involvement in service development
- To write group protocols in collaboration with others.
**Knowledge and Skills**
Essential
- Awareness and knowledge of factors specifically relating to O.T. within the particular setting
- Knowledge of risk assessment and risk management in clinical practice
- Able to communicate and negotiate effectively with staff at all levels.
- Able to commit to and work effectively within teams, MDT, and profession specific
- Good motivational techniques and abilities.
- Clear effective planning and decision-making skills.
- Able to maintain the profile of occupational therapy within a multidisciplinary setting.
- Able to establish good working relationships across the organisation and other agencies.
- To promote recovery and social inclusion
- Basic word processing and IT skills
- Knowledge of confidentiality & consent issues
- Knowledge of current national legislation, policies & guidelines relevant to clinical area
- Ability to analyse professional and ethical issues
Desirable
- Good organisational skills and time management.
- Presentation and teaching skills.
- Able to contribute to in-service training
- Demonstrates the ability to professionally role model, empower and motivate staff.
- To assimilate OT research into OT interventions
