Auckland City, New Zealand Department of Conservation Full time

**Our vision: Nature is thriving in Aotearoa | Te Oranga o te Ao Tūroa**

**The Department of Conservation Te Papa Atawhai (DOC) serves to protect and restore nature spaces and species across Aotearoa.**

Join us in protecting and revitalising the Hauraki Gulf Marine Park, New Zealand's first marine park and only national park of the sea. Covering 1.4 million hectares, it's more than 20 times the size of Lake Taupō and includes the Waitematā Harbour, Gulf Islands, Firth of Thames, and the east coast of the Coromandel Peninsula. Renowned as the seabird capital of the world and a vital whale superhighway, this marine park is intensively used and located right on the doorstep of our most populated city.

The proposed Hauraki Gulf / Tīkapa Moana Marine Protection Bill aims to establish new marine protection areas to enhance the Gulf's marine health. This bespoke legislation will be the first of its kind in Aotearoa and is part of the broader Revitalising the Gulf programme.

**He angitūtanga | About the role**

Are you passionate about marine conservation and ready to make a tangible impact?

We are seeking a Ranger/ Project Lead to guide the development and enhancement of vital infrastructure within the Hauraki Gulf Marine Protected Areas. As part of the implementation of the Hauraki Gulf/Tīkapa Moana Marine Protection Bill, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that our marine environment is accessible and well-marked for all users.

In this role, you will collaborate closely with our Treaty Partners and stakeholders to replace, update, and develop essential signage and demarcation markers—think big yellow triangles on sturdy poles marking the boundaries of marine reserves. Your innovative approach will help us create a user-friendly environment that encourages compliance with marine protection rules.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Collaborate with iwi/hapū and whānau to achieve shared goals and enhance community engagement.
- Innovate and problem-solve by thinking outside whilst working within regulation parameters.
- Manage infrastructure projects, ensuring timely updates and replacements of signage and markers.
- Oversee contractor management, ensuring quality and compliance with safety standards.
- Prioritise health and safety in all aspects of project execution.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, adapting to changing priorities.

This role involves travel, so you must be flexible to travel and work away from home for several days at a time as needed. This is a fixed term role until June 2026.

**Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and Experience**
- We are looking for someone who is passionate about the Hauraki Gulf and its revitalisation.
- Proven experience working with iwi/hapū and whānau.
- Strong background in infrastructure management and contractor oversight.
- A commitment to health and safety as a top priority.
- Exceptional organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to juggle multiple projects and deadlines effectively.

If you're ready to take on this exciting challenge and contribute to the revitalisation of the Hauraki Gulf, we want to hear from you

Join us in making a difference for our marine environment and the communities and species that depend on it.

If you require any accommodations or adjustments throughout the recruitment process, please do let us know.
