**Mō tēnei tūranga | About this role**

Working in a tight knit team you will be responsible for supporting the delivery of accurate and timely payroll processing, focussing on the operation and development of the payroll system (SAP). You will be responsible for:

- Building capability within the Payroll team / People Services team and working with the People Systems team to understand the technology road map, to ensure system changes are implemented smoothly (completing change requests and user acceptance testing).
- Identifying, analysing and resolving difficult problems with best practise solutions.
- Looking for system and process improvement opportunities
- Processing our fortnightly payrun, and other payroll tasks, such as out of cycle payments, Finance reconciliation and the IRD payday filing process.
- Completing complex payroll calculations to ensure our people are paid in accordance with their employment agreements and responding to complicated queries.
- Providing specialist advice to the People, Sustainability and Place team on payroll/system related matters.
- Supporting the Payroll Team Leader with coaching and mentoring the Payroll Specialists, and promoting best practise across the team

**Mōhou ake | About you**

We are looking for someone with extensive payroll experience who is passionate about the payroll function and payroll systems, understands the importance of this for our organisation, and is interested in looking for ways to improve our payroll delivery.

You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori. You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.

You will also demonstrate:

- Deep experience and technical understanding of Payroll Systems, with experience with Success Factors desirable
- Extensive operational payroll experience
- Experience in coaching, mentoring and training wider team members
- Knowledge of relevant legislation to HR and Payroll (e.g. Holidays Act 2003, Parental Leave and Employment Protection Act 1987, and Employment Relations Act 2000)
- A strong customer focus, providing sound advice and meeting service level agreements

To be successful you will be collaborative, with the ability to build strong relationships across the People, Sustainability and Place team.
