The Botanic Gardens team are recruiting for a Team leader for our Parks Urban Forest team. You will lead a team of specialists dedicated to the planting and care of juvenile trees within the City's Parks.

Trees are vitally important to the urban environment, and planting more of them is crucial to the ongoing health and livability of Christchurch City. Not only do they provide shade and beauty, but they are also integral to the health and wellbeing of the entire community. Trees purify the air we breathe, helping to reduce pollution and mitigate the effects of climate change. They provide vital habitats for a range of wildlife, and they help to reduce stormwater runoff, which can otherwise lead to flooding and soil erosion.

Christchurch City has long understood the importance of Urban trees which is reflected in its reputation as the garden city and its recent development of the Urban Forest Plan.

To meet the goals of the Urban Forest Plan we will be significantly increasing our tree planting within our Urban Parks with an aim to reach 40% canopy cover across all our public open spaces.

To achieve this, Council will be establishing an Urban Forest Planting team within the Parks unit. A key outcome of this team will be undertake planting within our Urban parks and nurture them for the first five years of their establishment.

As a member of this team your key responsibilities will be to:

- Planting of trees
- Watering of trees
- Mulching and staking of new trees
- Weed control
- Formative pruning of trees
- Assist with community planting days
- Assisting in the Collection of propagation material
- Assisting in the Production, processing and dispatch of plant collections from the Councils Nursery

Requirements of the role:

- At least 5 years previous experience working in arboriculture with at least 2 years' experience a leadership role
- Level 5 National Certificate in Arboriculture or equivalent
- Level 6 Diploma in Arboriculture
- Current full class 1 drivers license
- Experience delivering exceptional customer service and maintaining stakeholder relationships
