Speech Language Therapist

**Contract**: Permanent, Part Time (0.67 FTE / 26.8 hours per week)

**About the Role**

**Salary**: $88,627 - $110,210 pro rata

This role will primarily focus on service provision to the Wellington Regional service for Cleft Lip/Palate and Velopharyngeal Insufficiency (based at Hutt Hospital), but you will also have the opportunity to work on our inpatient wards (cleft feeding/paediatric dysphagia), and you will join a team of supportive SLTs who are dedicated to sharing our skills and knowledge with one another in order to best meet the needs of our patients.

The Clinician will work integrally within the MDT, enhancing health outcomes for patients and whānau by providing research-driven clinical care and advice. The role will include:

- Independent management of their own speech caseload including cases across both outpatient and inpatient settings.
- Liaison with key stakeholders in the patient - s environment.
- Coordination, facilitation and modelling high quality professional and interdisciplinary practice.
- Provision of specialist consultation and guidance based on contemporary best practice.
- Provision of clinical teaching to patients, families/ whānau, students, staff and other health professionals.
- Assisting in the development of standards, policies, protocols and resources as required.
- Contributing to specialist advice and input into the planning and development of services to meet the future needs of the Cleft Palate Speech Language Therapy team and the population served.

**About the Team/Service/Location**

The Speech Language Therapy team at Hutt Valley Hospital provides intervention for those with disorders of communication and swallowing for all ages across our acute, rehabilitation outpatient and community services. We provide input into a wide variety of multidisciplinary teams and work collaboratively as a small team of SLT - s to support one another as we provide care to a diverse range of patients.

The Wellington Regional service for Cleft Lip/Palate and Velopharyngeal Insufficiency provides MDT intervention from the antenatal phase through to adulthood for patients domiciled within Wellington, Greater Wellington, Mid-central, Hawkes Bay and Nelson-Marlborough. We currently have one Expert Speech-language Therapist in our team and an exciting opportunity for a clinician keen to advance their knowledge/expertise in this field, has arisen to further develop this service.

**About you**
- 3 years+ clinical practice is preferred
- clinical experience of directly/indirectly managing patients with cleft/velopharyngeal insufficiency independently ,or under supervision, would be highly advantageous
- clinical experience in the assessment, treatment/management of paediatric speech, phonology and language development with strong skills in phonetic transcription, to differentially diagnose speech error-types is essential.
- Skill in the provision of diagnostic therapy ,where required, would be highly advantageous
- experience in the assessment, treatment/management of paediatric dysphagia is preferable, but not essential
- Experience working within the medical setting is desirable
- A high standard of written and spoken English
- NZSTA Annual Practising Certificate; Current member of the NZSTA or eligibility to become an NZSTA member
- Qualification with an NZSTA accredited or approved Speech-language Therapy program (BSc. SLT / MSLTPrac)
