Mō te tūnga | About the role We are looking for two Senior Advisors to join the Solutions Design and Implementation Group. One Senior advisor is for the Urban Development Projects policy team. In this role, you will be contributing, and leading, advice to support the potential investment in, or implementation of complex urban development projects that will enable housing and lead to good urban outcomes. A core function of the role is to work at the interface between policy and operational projects. The other role is for the Housing Access and Support team. In this role you will have an opportunity to work in a team that provides funding and policy advice on a wide range of interventions which increase housing supply in Aotearoa New Zealand. This includes advice on support for first home buyers, increasing rental supply, supporting the supply of public housing, and housing for older people (in particular retirement villages). The opportunity for a senior analyst is likely to span a couple of these areas, and there is potential to move around within the team. Both roles require excellent relationship management skills, as you will be working with other team members, within the wider Ministry, and external stakeholders, such as Kainga Ora - Homes and Communities and local councils.' Our Senior Policy Advisors get the opportunity to develop their policy craft and leaderships skills in a supportive environment, leading policy projects, mentoring and coaching others, as well as engaging across HUD and with other agencies.'' Ō wheako, ō pukenga | About you As a policy professional you will be a critical thinker able to work on a range of complex and challenging issues and develop robust policy advice through a system wide lens. You should be comfortable leading policy work that achieves real tangible outcomes, under urgency, on often complex matters. You will be a confident communicator with experience working across agencies and with a range of stakeholders, senior leaders and Ministers.' Ideally, you will have: '
- Strong policy foundations, including excellent written and analytical skills and the ability to see the big picture'
- Experience in building strong relationships with key agencies and external stakeholders'
- A proactive approach, and experience leading large and/or complex policy projects'
- Experience (and a high degree of comfort) dealing with ambiguity and changing context'
- Proven ability to communicate with influence'
- Ability to interpret evidence, quickly assimilate new information or areas of work and understand unfamiliar and complex issues.'
- A relevant tertiary qualification.
