Wellington City, New Zealand Wellington Girls' College - 272 Full time

**Kei te kimi mātou i tētahi kaiāwhina hihiri, ngākau aroha hoki, e ū ana ki ngā uara o te manaaki, te whakahoahoa, me te ngākau tapatahi.**

Wellington Girls’ College | Te Kura Manawaroa o Pipitea is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Kaiāwhina who upholds our core values to support both ākonga and kaimahi across our kura.

We align our tikanga with Te Āti Awa and are committed to honouring this relationship in all aspects of kura life. We are working hard to grow a team that actively supports our Māori tauira and sustains the incredible kaupapa and initiatives developed over recent years. The role of kaiāwhina is one created to help support our ākonga Māori and kaupapa Māori.

The Kaiāwhina will play a vital role in supporting the cultural, academic, and emotional well-being of our ākonga Māori. The successful applicant will work across the kura, supporting our Te Reo Māori Department, Kahukura (our vertical wānanga for Māori students), kapa haka, whānau hui, and other important kaupapa and events.

We are looking for someone who brings a holistic, student-centred approach — someone who can recognise when tauira need tautoko, respond with care, and follow school processes to ensure the right support is in place.

**Ngā haepapa matua | Key responsibilities**:

- Supporting our Māori team staff and Kaihautū o te Tari Reo Māori (including senior leaders and kaiako) in organising kaupapa Māori events and haerenga.
- Forming strong, respectful relationships with ākonga so they feel safe, seen, and valued in their identity as Māori, including supporting lunchtime activities in our Kahukura space and upholding tikanga within that environment.
- Providing one-on-one support where needed and if indicated by Māori team staff, including with learning, engagement and behaviour.
- Helping to uphold and strengthen the connection between tauira, their whānau, and our kura.

**Ōu pūkenga | Key attributes**:

- A sound understanding of Te Ao Māori, tikanga, and some te reo Māori.
- A warm and empathetic nature, strong interpersonal skills, and confidence with administration and IT systems.
- A collaborative mindset and a commitment to upholding the mana of our ākonga Māori.

This is a permanent, part-time position, 20 hours pw term time only, beginning in Term 3, 2025. Days of work must include Monday (until 6 pm to support and supervise kapa haka) and Thursday. Other days are negotiable with a degree of flexibility to support activities.

As per the Support Staff in School Collective Agreement. The position is Graded C on the Teacher Aide work Matrix.
