At Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga | Ministry of Education, we work to provide services and support nationally, regionally, and locally to the education sector, and in some cases, directly to ākonga, learners and whānau.
We help shape the policies, settings, and performance of the education system for early learning, schooling, and tertiary. We do this by building relationships and understanding the needs of those who receive our services.
We are making significant changes to how we deliver our mahi by
- taking practical action to give effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi
- giving priority to regional and local voice
- delivering greater responsiveness, accessibility and integrated services and support
- improving feedback loops and information flows

Curriculum Lead Service
The Curriculum Lead service is a frontline support that works closely with teachers and kaiako to assist with the designing of engaging and responsive curriculum learning that ensures national learning priorities are experienced by every ākonga or learner enabling them to see their cultures, languages, and identities reflected in their learning.
The existing Curriculum Lead service was established through the Wellbeing 2020 budget to ensure every ākonga or learner experiences well designed curriculum which fosters their wellbeing. The Curriculum Lead service is being extended to strengthen the existing service, to aid education sector leaders, kaiako and teachers to implement the changes associated with the curriculum refresh and the connection between wellbeing, te reo matatini me te pāngarau, literacy & communication and maths learning outcomes. These positions will support the implementation of the Literacy & Communication and Maths strategy and Hei Raukura Mō te Mokopuna.

This position has a Primary focus - both English medium and Rūmaki reo.
This is an opportunity to work closely with teachers and kaiako to assist with the design of engaging and responsive curriculum learning that ensures national learning priorities are experienced by every ākonga or learner. You will be part of a regional team within Te Mahau, and working closely with your sector to support:
Taking practical action to give effect to te Tiriti o Waitangi by
- building partnerships with teachers and kaiako to practically support the design of engaging and responsive local curriculum learning that embraces and reflects the diverse cultures, identities, languages of ākonga, learners and their whānau through the national learning priorities, and their contribution to fostering wellbeing.
Giving priority to regional and local voice by
- growing collaborative networks within communities, and actively sharing and discussing the use of Primaryresources, supports and services alongside sharing examples of good, local practice. You will be regionally based, introducing curriculum initiatives to colleagues in regional teams and supporting settings to work with whānau, hapū and iwi to implement these.
Delivering greater responsiveness, accessibility and integrated services and support by
- consolidating frontline, regional, and national networks to strengthen the design and implementation of curriculum resources, supports and services. This is underpinned by an in-depth understanding of the National Curriculum and the connection between wellbeing, te reo matatini me te pāngarau, literacy & communication and maths learning outcomes.
Improving feedback loops and information flows by
- participating in developing and embedding feedback loops with and across the sector, regional teams, and the national team. This contributes to the design and implementation of curriculum resources, supports and services to ensure they are Te Tiriti honouring, inclusive, clear, and easy to use.
