Mō te tūnga | The role
We have multiple full time permanent (37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday) Statistical and Data Analyst positions based in our Wellington office.
As a Statistical and Data Analyst you will be involved in all aspects of the maintenance of the Statistical Locations Register and administration data. The register is the backbone for addressing at Stats NZ. The role spans data input, validation, compilation, and analysis.
This role is responsible for leading the production of statistical and data
This role provides technical coaching to Statistical and Data Technicians and
Senior Statistical and Data Technicians on the range of issues and considerations that can impact the processes used in the end to end preparation, integration, testing and delivery of data and statistical products and services, in particular Tier 1 statistics for critical decision-making.
You're the tool expert Your interest in systems, strong coding abilities, software development and investigative skills will be critical to the production of statistical outputs that tell meaningful stories.

Mōu | About you
To hit the ground running we're hoping you'll bring the following skills and experience:
Minimum
- Degree qualification in a relevant discipline.
- Minimum one year work experience in using statistical packages and/or relevant programming tools.
- The ability to work with and analyse large datasets
Desirable
- Well-rounded practitioner, demonstrates potential to develop area of expertise.
- Excellent communicator who also produces high quality documentation
- Able to take new methods and work with other colleagues to develop outlines of issues that need to be clarified before implementation.
- Ability to review and develop practice guidelines around new and original practices that enable other staff to work efficiently and consistently.
- Knowledge/familiarity or a commitment to learning/understanding Te Ao Māori, in order to understand and contribute meaningful work and outcomes for Māori communities.
