Auckland City, New Zealand The Warehouse Full time

Company Description

The Warehouse Group looks after some of Aotearoa’s most famous and favourite retail brands - The Warehouse, Warehouse Stationery and Noel Leeming.

With around 180 sites, 10,000 team members and a large number of New Zealanders shopping at our three brands, we have a big health & safety responsibility. The safety of our team members, contractors and customer’s is paramount.

Job Description

We’re looking for a sharp, hands-on H&S Specialist to lead a cross-functional project that will shape how we manage Dangerous and Hazardous Goods (DG/HG) across our entire supply chain.

This is a unique opportunity to work across the buy, move, and sell functions - mapping processes end-to-end, embedding compliant and safe practices, rebuilding team capability and understanding across the full lifecycle and helping us move from reactive compliance to proactive risk management.

Quick rundown of the role:

- Lead the development of a full end to end process map for all DG/HG products covering sourcing, transport, storage and sale.
- Identify and classify hazardous substances in line with GHS7 and EPA 2025 updates.
- Ensure alignment with WorkSafe NZ and international standards, including documentation of classifications, limits, and regulatory requirements
- Collaborate with operational teams to develop and embed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and planograms that ensure safe and compliant handling of DG/HG products.
- Roll out improved controls, signage, and storage protocols across stores and DCs.
- Establish and maintain a review and audit process for hazardous substance management to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Design and deliver training for team members across buy, move, and sell functions to build awareness and capability in DG/HG compliance.
- Work closely with H&S, Quality, Commercial, and Store Operations teams to clarify ownership, roles, and responsibilities across the DG/HG process.

Qualifications

To thrive in this dynamic role, you’ll be a passionate Health and Safety professional who effortlessly builds strong relationships across a diverse range of stakeholders. You’ll have the confidence to hold others accountable while leading with empathy and understanding.

Also on our wish list:

- Strong working knowledge of Dangerous Goods regulations (NZ and international).
- Experience in process mapping, compliance auditing, and training delivery.
- Proven ability to work cross-functionally and manage complex stakeholder environments.
- Familiarity with SDS management systems and regulatory reporting.
- An ability to deliver at pace in a complex and ever changing environment
- Strong communication skills and ability to convey complex ideas
