**About the role**
The Vehicle Design team works closely with other Engineering teams and Production to bring new concepts to life. This includes the development of our vehicle and space craft systems, related data structures and documentation to support the manufacturing and performance improvement of Electron and related Space Systems.
As a Principal Design Engineer at Rocket Lab, you will be strongly influencing the design of the world's first mass-produced orbital launch vehicle. Given the high launch cadence of Electron, you will have unparalleled opportunities for end-to-end hardware development and seeing your designs reach space.
In addition, you will play a leading role in the development of major sub-systems of Neutron, covering various structural and mechanical systems of the rocket.
Success in this position will be measured by the value of the knowledge and experience in design and manufacturing that you bring into this role, your ability to lead design projects without supervision, successful collaboration with other teams across Rocket Lab, and the skillful prioritisation of competing engineering development projects across the group.
**Essential Skills**
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Aerospace/Mechanical/Mechatronics Engineering)
- 10+ years working experience in Engineering, including experience in one of the following areas
- Pressurised mechanical systems
- Mechanical moving assemblies
- Composites structures
- Cyrogenic systems including oxygen service systems
- Proven experience developing full design solutions for significant structural and mechanical systems in aerospace or related field
- Creative, analytical, good at problem solving
- Ability to work on own initiative with ability to plan own daily workflow to meet higher level tasks
- Clear communication skills
- Calm under pressure
