**He angitūtanga: The opportunity**

Do you have a passion for conservation, environmental education and an ability to enthuse and activate residents of Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland?

As a Park Ranger, you will be responsible for enabling safe and enjoyable outdoor recreation experiences in regional park settings, while conserving and protecting natural and cultural heritage resources.
This role is based in the Waitākere Ranges Regional Park Te Wao Nui o Tiriwa with a major focus on delivering educational programs to visitors.

You will be responsible for educating visitors about the park's natural resources, history, and conservation efforts, and working closely and in partnership with mana whenua Te Kawerau a Maki, as kaitiaki of the area.

Day to day you will be:

- Delivering educational programs to visitors of all ages, including guided tours, hikes, and interactive exhibits.
- Collaborating with other council and parks staff to develop and implement educational programs and events.
- Managing and supporting volunteers and external stakeholders
- Overseeing and auditing contractors.
- General park maintenance
- Visitor liaison duties such as campgrounds and visitor arrival areas
- Supporting the wider ranger teams
- Managing recreational asset maintenance and walking tracks

You will be part of a team covering the Western Regional Parks. As a ranger in the Western Regional Parks team, you will be required to work weekends and public holidays on a ranger roster system. This will include responding to emergency calls after hours when you are rostered as a duty ranger.

**He kōrero mōu: About you**

Have a strong background (minimum of 2-3 years practical experience) in conservation, ecology and biosecurity management; experience in recreation and education is also highly sought after.

The successful person in this role will:

- Be a strong communicator
- Have a passion for working with volunteers, iwi, community groups and park visitors
- Have a 'can do' positive attitude
- Have sound practical experience
- Be proactive, approachable, and motivated.

An education, conservation, or land management qualification(s) or similar would be highly desirable along with other appropriate licences to support public safety and environmental protection.

A current NZ full driver's licence (be able to drive a manual vehicle) is required for this position.

This role requires working on a roster system, being available for weekends and public holidays.
