The Proces Engineer is accountable for providing technical direction and leading technical initiatives on major projects for the network of plants within New Zealand. Evaluating, developing, improving and documenting the manufacturing and packing processes to meet or exceed customer requirements and expectations. This role will be an integral part of the Timaru Team, to understand, comply and where necessary enforce, company policies and practices currently in place and any new policies/practices that are implemented.

**About the role**
- Promote and improve the health and safety culture within all departments at the Timaru site
- Oversee the implementation and sustainment of all continuous improvement activities
- Have a working knowledge of key contributors of the Total Production Cost (TPC)
- Guide and assist with creating opportunities to reduce operational cost
- Leverage CapEx for cost reduction and quality improvement
- Implement and sustain improvements made through Lean principles
- Advise on capital projects, collaborating with safety, health and safety teams to ensure site manufacturing processes are safely designed with policies and procedures
- Monitor factory performance and establish packaging performance targets
- Lead technical programs to improve factory packing performance
- Review action plans and deliver improvement initiatives with leadership teams
- Perform studies on measurement systems (MSA) to ensure correct calibration protocols are in place and managed
- Understand Food Safety Management Systems and enforce compliance with the HACCP Plan
- Have a 'hands on' approach to Employee Relations, including the monitoring of Plant Key Performance Indicators
- Ensure all aspects of the day to day operation of the plant are compliant with local body, legislative and corporate requirements

**About you**
- Verifable experience in food science, engineering, science, process engineering, with relevant tertiary qualification
- A minimum of three years’ experience in manufacturing, maintenance, R&D, technical services or packaging with supervisory experience (in a manufacturing packing environment)
- Proven knowledge of manufacturing processes, safety, quality (HACCP, GMP), quality management systems and environmental management systems
- Able to work on a variety of unconnected projects with a result focus orientation, a logical thinker with good problem solving skills
- Experience as an analytical/creative thinker and designer with proven cause/effect or fault analysis, troubleshooting, mechanical aptitude and reliability engineering
- Demonstrated knowledge of statistical process control, Lean principles and Six Sigma methodology
- A team player with good organisational, people and communication skills (across multiple departments and all levels of personnel)
- Able to travel frequently to other sites across New Zealand and Australia
