- Capability as a strategic and critical thinker - and the ability to understand the broader impacts of decisions and anticipate the Minister's needs and ensure the team delivers highly quality, timely and influential advice
- A strong focus on impact and delivery - the ability to keep a team motivated and focussed on the important, not just the urgent
- Exceptional relationship management skills and credibility to engage with and influence senior decision makers whilst connecting issues and being aware of changing environments
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to represent the Treasury in senior forums
- A strong background in contemporary economics.
- A genuine commitment to inclusion and diversity and lifting Te Tai Ōhanga's Māori policy capability

The Treasury values diversity and inclusion and encourages a positive work/life balance with flexible work arrangements and a range of health and wellbeing initiatives. We are more than happy to discuss flexible working arrangements.
