As **Te Tai Ōhanga - The Treasury**, we are committed to tiakitanga to make New Zealand a better place for people today and in the future. We safeguard New Zealand's finances and are the Government's trusted economic advisor. Our vision is to lift living standards for all New Zealanders.
The **Economic Strategy Team** is responsible for developing the evidence base and related policy insights necessary to advise the government on how to lift New Zealand's long-term economic performance, strengthen resilience and deliver better wellbeing outcomes for all New Zealanders. It also plays a leading role in the development of a wide range of stewardship documents, such as the Long-Term Fiscal Statement, Long-Term Insights Briefing and the Wellbeing Report. It is one of three teams within the Economic Strategy Directorate that collectively lead the development of Treasury medium-to-long-term economic and regulatory strategy advice and thinking.
**About the role**:
We are looking for a manager to lead a motivated and experienced team developing Treasury's long-term economic strategy advice. As Manager, Economic Strategy, you will help the team connect to and influence Treasury's wider work programme to ensure that economic, fiscal and wider wellbeing perspectives are well integrated across Treasury's advice. You will engage directly with Ministers and senior leaders across the public and private sector, including the academic community and think tanks, through a variety of ways.
You will have a strong focus on the wellbeing and development of your team members. As well as building strong relationships internally and externally, you will be part of the Economic Strategy Directorate management team, which has a strong focus on collaboration and collective management and puts our people at the centre of everything we do.
**You will bring to the role**:
- An effective and contemporary leadership style that is consultative and understands the big picture, leads by example and empowers and helps others remain focused and confident in ambiguous and changing circumstances
- Excellent people leadership skills - someone who enjoys coaching, mentoring and developing others to build their capability
- Capability as a strategic and critical thinker - and the ability to understand the broader impacts of decisions and anticipate the Minister's needs and ensure the team delivers highly quality, timely and influential advice
- A strong focus on impact and delivery - the ability to keep a team motivated and focussed on the important, not just the urgent
- Exceptional relationship management skills and credibility to engage with and influence senior decision makers whilst connecting issues and being aware of changing environments
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to represent the Treasury in senior forums
- A strong background in contemporary economics.
- A genuine commitment to inclusion and diversity and lifting Te Tai Ōhanga's Māori policy capability
**What we offer**:
The Treasury offers interesting, diverse and stimulating work that addresses the big opportunities and complex challenges facing New Zealand. We pride ourselves on the quality of our staff and understand the importance of encouraging staff to develop their talents and potential.
The Treasury values diversity and inclusion and encourages a positive work/life balance with flexible work arrangements and a range of health and wellbeing initiatives. We are more than happy to discuss flexible working arrangements.
The salary range for this role is $195,983 to $230,568 with final placement in range contingent on the calibre of the successful applicant and their experience.
We also offer five weeks annual leave for permanent full-time employees (pro-rated for part-time employees)
