**Kōrero mō te tūranga | About the Role**

This role reports directly to the Deputy Secretary (DS) Macroeconomics & Growth and is a significant leadership role in the Macroeconomics and Growth group. As Director you will be responsible for the delivery of the strategy and outputs of the Economic System Directorate and you will play a crucial role in ensuring the work of the Directorate is aligned to enhancing the Treasury's vision and values. You will work collaboratively with other Directors to ensure activities across the organisation strengthen the Treasury's outcomes that enable higher living standards for New Zealanders. As part of the role you will represent the Treasury and New Zealand domestically and internationally.

As well as your pan-organisation responsibilities, you will be responsible for the leadership and delivery of all planned activity within the Directorate, Economic System (ES). ES provides advice to the Ministers on a range of issues including macroeconomic and fiscal policy, tax strategy, financial markets policy (including natural hazards insurance), overseas investment and on our key international relationships in the Finance portfolio. The ES directorate is also responsible for our advice on Votes Commerce and Consumer Affairs, Revenue and Foreign Affairs.

**About you**:
You will be an experienced and highly skilled people leader who can communicate our vision and have the mana to represent the Treasury with our stakeholders. You will have a background in macroeconomic and/or fiscal policy (either an academic qualification or significant work experience in policy issues in these areas). Ideally, you will have some experience in microeconomic policy also.

- Strong policy design and implementation experience. An in-depth understanding of the public sector and government processes, especially in policy making
- Excellent engagement, communication and influencing skills
- The ability to think and act strategically and thrive in delivering in a highly ambiguous environment.
