**About the Role**
The Senior Network Engineer provides technical leadership across complex network environments, ensuring the delivery of high-quality solutions and services. This role is responsible for driving optimisation initiatives, improving service performance, and aligning technical outcomes with organisational standards and best practices. Working closely with the Team Lead, Engineers, Technical Leads, and vendors, the Senior Network Engineer contributes to technical planning, oversees implementation, and ensures effective issue resolution. A key aspect of this role is mentoring other engineers and shaping the development of technical standards and processes to support reliable, secure, and scalable network services.
**About the Team/Service/ Location**
The Senior Network Engineer (Te Manawa Taki), Rotorua based, sits within the Network and Communications team, part of the Digital Operations function under the wider Digital Services group. Reporting into the Practice Lead (Network and Communications Central), this team is responsible for delivering fast, reliable, and secure communication channels across corporate and healthcare facilities. Their work enables seamless voice and data exchange, supports collaboration, and underpins national standardisation efforts to ensure consistent and equitable digital access across the organisation. The team plays a vital role in maintaining the digital infrastructure that supports efficient, connected healthcare services.
**About you**
You will be an experienced network professional with proven expertise in technical planning, solution delivery, and service optimisation. You'll bring the ability to mentor and guide other engineers while contributing to the development of technical standards and processes. With strong problem-solving skills and a focus on delivering high-quality outcomes, you ensure network services remain secure, reliable, and aligned to evolving business needs. You will also have the following skills and experience to support your success in the role:
- Positive attitude and excellent communication skills
- CCNP certification or equivalent
- Excellent operational experience with Cisco switching and routing
- Strong Firewall skillet covering Checkpoint with Fortinet and Palo Alto beneficial
- Enthusiastic technology professional with proven experience in technical leadership and providing expert guidance and oversight across complex IT environments.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in day-to-day technical support roles ensuring service availability, stability, and compliance with technical standards.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in the optimisation and improvement of complex IT environments, driving technical initiatives in line with organisational standards and best practices.
- Willingness to travel within the region, participate in an on-call roster and after hours work when required.
