Te Kāhui Whakatau is a dynamic and impactful team dedicated to supporting groups to settle their Treaty claims and move towards restoring the Māori Crown relationship.

**Te whiwhinga mahi/The Opportunity**

You will be part of a team who will negotiate the settlement of historical Treaty claims in Te Tai Tokerau. You will also bring thought leadership to cutting edge policy development work on constitutional issues. For example, considering the findings of the Waitangi Tribunal's Te Paparahi o te Raki historical inquiry and developing redress options.

**He pūkenga tou/Skills and Experience**

A motivated, talented and hard-working Principal Advisor, you will have the opportunity to make a real difference to restoring, sustaining and improving Māori Crown relationships.

To be successful in this role you will bring:

- Proven experience upholding the principles of te Tiriti o Waitangi.
- Familiarity with te ao Māori and ideally have te reo Māori capability.
- Facilitation and delivery experience across social, economic and environmental sectors, particularly in Kaupapa Māori and Māori Crown partnerships, or an extensive career history ideally with a Te Tiriti o Waitangi/Treaty of Waitangi, legal or constitutional background.
- Demonstrated ability working across agencies and with iwi/Māori partners and other regional stakeholders to achieve results.
- Strong knowledge of Ministerial and Cabinet processes, statutory decision making, as well as problem-solving, relationship management and influencing skills.
- Strong policy skills, excellent written skills and ability to brief for different audiences.
- Desire to contribute to the broader capability of the office as well as coaching staff and taking the lead on negotiations as appropriate.

**Utu ā-tau/**Salary**

The appointing salary for this role will be between $124,397 and $173,973, depending on skills and experience.
