We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Advisor International Engagement. We are currently working through whether this role will be a three year fixed term or a permanent position.
Standards New Zealand (SNZ) is New Zealand's national standards body. We work closely with government, industry, consumer, and stakeholder groups to develop and provide access to standards that shape and improve the lives of all New Zealanders. Standards help make life safer and easier. They improve the effectiveness and reliability of many goods and services used every day.
Standards New Zealand is the New Zealand member of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). Membership of the International Electrotechnical Committee (IEC) is via the IEC National Committee of New Zealand (NCNZ).
There are many benefits for New Zealand in active participation in international standardisation. International Standards generally reflect the best experience of industry and regulators worldwide and cover conditions in a variety of countries. Participation in international standards development ensures New Zealand’s interests are voiced in the development of International Standards. This facilitates the international exchange of goods and services.
We have an exciting opportunity and are seeking a Senior Advisor International Engagement to support Standards New Zealand with international standards participation and take the lead to promote international standards solutions that are relevant to New Zealand.
**In this role you will be responsible for**:
- Working with the international standards community and prioritising promoting international standards development projects and committees that are important for New Zealand’s interests.
- Proactive engagement with stakeholders to encourage contribution to the development of international standards.
- Build and maintain strategic working relationships with key stakeholders, in particular central government agencies, industry bodies and international standards bodies.
- Establishing and managing processes to ensure that New Zealand meets its membership/agreement obligations within international standards organisations, such as the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
- Ensuring there are effective committees in place and that the right people (experts) are participating as effectively as they can with the right support.
- Preparing and presenting papers to the Standards Approval Board proposing new and replacement international committee members. Ngā pukenga me ngā wheako e hiahiatia ana - Skills and Experience Required
We are looking for someone that is proactive, enthusiastic, has a hands-on work ethic, likes a challenge and brings the following:
- Significant experience working in a strategic proactive engagement type role.
- Highly organised with excellent attention to detail, strong report-writing and communication skills and analytical capabilities.
- Ideally experience/working knowledge of the standards and conformance sector
- Politically savvy and aware of government priorities, obligations and protocols
- Proven track record in developing and implementing frameworks, and ability manage systems and processes.
- Excellent influencing, interpersonal communication skills and sound judgement.
- Ability to quickly establish and build strong working relationships, and manage them
- Ideally experience representing New Zealand and engaging at an international level with other government agencies and industry bodies.
- Proven ability to develop trust and credibility with stakeholders and within their own team
- Ability to work to deadlines and manage multiple projects efficiently and to prioritise competing commitments.
- Strong work ethic and high level of self-motivation - the right attitude is key here.
- A relevant tertiary qualification and/or extensive comparable experience.
- Must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand.
Due to the international engagement requirements of this role, there will be occasions when attendance at meetings/webinars takes place outside of normal working business hours.
