Manukau City, New Zealand Te Aka Whai Ora Full time

**Location**:Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, Christchurch

**Directorate**:Service Development & Relations

**Contract**:Permanent

**Salary**:TBC

**Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role**

The Māori Lived Experience voice has often been absent from decision making tables. For too long things have been done _to_ us - not _with_ us - or better yet _by_ us. As the Principal Advisor Lived Experience you will hold a pivotal role in radically changing that korero going forward. You will be able to bring your valuable lived experience and your full true authentic self to your mahi every day.

The Principal Advisor Lived Experience will provide national strategic lived experience advice to the Director Lived Experience, the wider Oranga Hinengaro Group, and the Whānau Voice team. You will be the conduit of korero and connection between Manatū Hauora, Te Aka Whai Ora, Te Whatu Ora and other stakeholders to enable and enhance the mahi of Iwi Māori Partnerships Boards (IMPBs), Māori health providers, iwi, hapū and Māori communities to achieve Māori health aspirations.

**Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity**

We are bringing together a highly motivated and deeply connected team of lived experience experts who are focussed on creating a better tomorrow. This is your opportunity to put forth the wero, to ensure that Māori Live Experience occupies its rightful place at the very head of leading that change.

This is a truly rewarding space where you will come to work each day in a courageous and progressive team, making a difference, leading disruptive change, and creating innovation and capabilities across our health system for whānau Māori.

**Moū - About you**

You will need to be a big picture thinker and detail focussed. You will need exceptional time management and project management skills. You will need the ability to quickly and easily interpret and understand health policy - plus the ability to advise and input into any changes or challenges.

You will need to be proud and secure in your tuakiritanga as tangata whaiora Māori as you will face many challenges in attempting to affect change. You however will not be facing those challenges alone.

**Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience**

Ideally you will have:

- Close connections to other lived experience roopu and whānau nationally
- A proven track record of exercising your lived experience voice and empowering others to do the same
- Ability to live and breathe manaakitanga
- Experience in critical analysis of health and/or social policy and practice
- Diligence in time management and task completion
- Experience in focus group organisation and facilitation
- A willingness to remain fearless in the face of adversity
- A humble inquiring mind that is always open to learning.

**Ko wai mātou | Our Organisation**

Te Aka Whai Ora - Māori Health Authority is a newly established independent statutory entity responsible for enabling greater Māori participation in the design and delivery of health services for the betterment of all. This will be achieved by embedding the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi as central components of Aotearoa New Zealand's health reform.

Te Aka Whai Ora will play an essential role in enhancing Māori rangatiratanga, ensuring everyone has the equitable access to healthcare and supporting whānau to take control of their own health and wellbeing. Te Aka Whai Ora will work in partnership with Manatū Hauora - Ministry of Health and Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand and enable Iwi-Māori Partnerships Boards (IMPBs), Māori health providers, iwi, hapū and Māori communities to achieve Māori health aspirations.
