The Implementation
- Kura Auraki Team is responsible for the successful implementation of the NCEA change programme. The team provides services to the programme, including participatory design, planning and delivering implementation support for the sector, community and stakeholder engagement, and communications.
The Principal Advisor leads, inspires, supports, and motivates others in the design and implementation of the goals, actions and purpose of the Ministry and intention and principals of the change programme.
The Principal Advisor supports the Implementation
- Kura Auraki team with guiding and leading the implementation of the NCEA Review of Achievement Standards and other projects across Secondary Tertiary.

Mōhou ake | About you
They will have sharp interpersonal skills, superior writing skills, and will be comfortable representing the Ministry in working with a diverse range of stakeholders and in public settings.
Experience and qualifications
- Have experience in working within the public sector and understanding of the political environment and how related issues should be managed.
- Be strategic thinkers (i.e., sees issues through a range of lenses and stakeholder perspectives; and recognises broader implications and connections between issues).
- Have strong written and oral communication skills (i.e., conveys energy, urgency, confidence, and a sense of ease).
- Have the ability to foster a continuous improvement culture across the team (i.e. so that team members are encouraged and empowered to identify and seize opportunities to enhance business performance).
- Be able to coach and mentor individuals (i.e., invests time in coaching and mentoring their staff, to assist them enhance the capabilities required in their current roles and the roles they aspire to).
- Be purposeful about where they invest their time (i.e., takes a deliberate work management approach which strikes an effective balance between proactive and responsive work activities).
- Have teaching and kura leadership experience.
- Have a skillset in Te Reo Māori and Mātauranga Māori.

The Secondary Tertiary Group sits within Te Poutāhū and covers the transition from senior secondary through to tertiary and employment.
Te Poutāhū works to make learning and teaching relevant, real and valued. We deliver and maintain critical services for the education sector to support responsive learner pathways from early childhood into further education, training, the workforce and society. Te Poutāhū performs a crucial role working between the strategy and policy teams, and the sector facing functions.
The Secondary Tertiary team sits within the Te Poutāhū and covers the transition from senior secondary through to tertiary and employment.
