**Mo m tou | About Us**

At The Treasury Te Tai Ohanga we're creating a better future for New Zealand. We're the Government's economic and financial advisor, working hard to raise the standard of living for everyone in Aotearoa, now and in the future. Our talented people bring their diverse backgrounds and experiences to tackling New Zealand's biggest and most inter-connected issues.

**Korero mo te turanga | About the Role**

We are looking for an enthusiastic and talented professional to join the Natural Resources team. This role provides an opportunity to help us with some of the biggest economic and financial policy challenges facing Aotearoa/ New Zealand. The Natural Resources team covers economic and financial policy matters relating to the environment, conservation, primary industries, and land information.

The team leads the Treasury's economic and financial policy advice across a broad range of areas, with a focus on delivering the government's economic strategy and fiscal sustainability objectives. There is plenty of scope to deliver these outcomes given the responsibilities of our agencies which include:

- The Department of Conservation - manages 30% of New Zealand's land, is a major infrastructure and asset owner, a large recreation and tourism provider, is the lead advisor on biodiversity protection, and also has significant Treaty implementation obligations.
- The Ministry for Primary Industries - is the lead advisor on New Zealand's food and fibre sector including agriculture, fisheries and forestry which are important contributors to NZ's exports. MPI is responsible for biosecurity services which are critical for protecting our primary industries and maintaining access to export markets.
- The Ministry for the Environment - we work with MfE on resource management reforms, climate change policy, and waste minimisation. We work alongside Treasury's climate change team on cross cutting issues in our votes with a focus on agricultural emissions and the role of forestry in meeting NZ's climate change targets.

The team also leads advice relating to the Treasury's responsibilities under the Crown Forests Assets Act. This involves providing advice to the Minister of Finance and other ministers to assist them in carrying out their statutory functions, including the cancellation or variation of public access easements or covenants in forests that have been returned to iwi as part of Treaty settlements. This work involves engagement with stakeholders and Iwi, progressing necessary public consultation, reviewing submissions and carrying out research.

The position is a core role in the Natural Resources team and involves responsibility for leading engagement with one or more of our agencies. The role involves analysis and advice on proposals with significant economic and fiscal impacts, financial management and budget responsibilities, strategic sector policy analysis, and supporting cross-cutting areas, particularly areas relating to our economic and fiscal strategy.
