**He angitūtanga | The opportunity**:
The Animal and Bylaw Services team is looking for someone to join their team in a full-time permanent position. To be successful in this position you will need:

- To provide a quality service that supports the safety of the community in relation to animal and local bylaws functions ensuring Masterton is a great place to live, visit and do business.
- This is achieved by delivering quality services and building relationships with the local community that enable the provision of information and education in a collaborate way.
- Act, regulations, plans and associated policies are monitored and effectively enforced and such other general matters as the Masterton District Council is required to administer by law statute or regulation.
- To provide a quality animal control and bylaws service that ensures the safety of the community, and animals within Council’s custody.
- To work in a team to deliver excellent customer service in relation to the control of animals and bylaws including attending callouts to ensure service is maintained at all times for the benefit of the community.
- To build and maintain effective relationships with residents and other members of the community providing information and education so they can fulfil their obligations relating to the control of animals and local bylaws.

**He kōrero mōu | About you**:

- Experience in compliance, investigation, enforcement, veterinary nursing, animal welfare or related position within Local Government would be an advantage.
- National Certificate in Compliance and Regulatory Control (Animal control) Level 2 and 4 (preferred).
- Experience and confidence working with animals.
- Demonstrated experience delivering outcomes with a minimum of supervision.
- Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining positive stakeholder relationships - internal and external.
- The ability to draft concise letters, SOPs and reports.
- A resilient and assertive approach to conflict and challenging situations (non-confrontational).
- Well-developed negotiation and conflict de-escalation skills.
- Well-developed computer skills including Microsoft Outlook and Word.
- Ability to work collaboratively to ensure service delivery is achieved across the team.
- Able to work in all weather and climatic extremes, and a reasonable level of health and physical fitness.
- Full, clean New Zealand driving licence, can drive a manual vehicle.
- Conveys a professional and positive image, with a courteous and efficient manner.
- Attention to details and the able to effectively multi-task.
- Willing to cover after hours on-call and care of animals in our animal shelter as required on a rostered basis.
