Contractor
As a mentor you will mentor your young person based on their availability and schedule. Each young person has a set number of hours or duration of mentoring and it is on a case by case basis. We can not guarantee set income or hours and you will be a hired as a **contractor** for the purposes of mentoring.

We work with youth who have high needs and challenging behaviours, helping them develop essential life skills and make positive life choices. We are seeking dedicated and compassionate individuals to join our team as Youth Mentors and Life Skills Coaches.
**Location**:
Applicant must be able and willing to travel in the broader Christchurch area.
We are looking for mentors to provide support to boys aged from 6 - 18 years old
As a Youth Mentor and Life Skills Coach, you will play a crucial role in supporting and guiding young people to achieve their goals and overcome challenges. Your primary responsibilities will include:
**1. Mentoring and Guidance**: Providing one-on-one or small group (max 3) mentoring and guidance to young individuals to help them build self-confidence, develop life skills, and set and achieve personal goals.
**2. Behavioral Support**: Assisting youth in managing challenging behaviors by using effective communication and conflict resolution techniques.
**3. Activity Planning**: Creating fun, engaging and educational activities to promote personal growth and skill development.
**4. Flexible Schedule**: Working flexible hours that may include afternoons, evenings, and weekends to accommodate the availability of the young people you mentor. You can choose your hours based on your schedule.
**5. Transportation & Licence**: You must have access to a vehicle and a valid full driver's license to facilitate transportation to various mentoring sessions and activities.
**6. Reporting & Communication**:The ability to submit timely reports and updates is crucial, alongside strong communication skills which includes making and receiving phone calls from managers, social workers/ facilitators and other internal and external stakeholders.
**7. High Self Motivation and Drive**:Must be able to work independently and have strong motivation to complete goals and achieve outcomes, while building strong connections with young people and stakeholders. You will predominantly work alone and need to be a self starter.
**8. All Expenses Included**:All mentoring expenses including petrol, activity and food, are factored into the hourly rate and there is no additional allowances unless otherwise arranged.

**Qualifications**:
- Preferred but not required: Completed or working towards a certificate 3 or above in Health Sciences or similar.
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a small team.
- Ability to manage challenging behaviors and deescalate heightened situations.
- A genuine desire to work with young people with high needs and challenging behaviors.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Empathy and patience to understand and support the unique needs of each student.
