Wellington City, New Zealand New Zealand Government Full time

The Crown Response Office was established in September 2024 to coordinate and facilitate cross-government decision making and implement the Crown's response to the Abuse in Care Royal Commission of Inquiry. The Office sits within the Public Service Commission. The creation of the Office within a central Government agency was a key recommendation in the Royal Commission's final report, Whanaketia - through pain and trauma, from darkness to light.

The Crown Response Office plays an important strategic, advisory and coordination role to ensure the Crown is joined up and focused on the right priorities.

We currently have a newly created fixed term or secondment opportunity until 30 June 2027 for a Manager - Governance and Ministerial Servicing.

The Manager Governance and Ministerial Servicing is responsible for governance system stewardship, providing leadership across the Crown Response to guide direction, coordinate effort and maintain coherence between different parts of the system. This role ensures that the Crown Response Office delivers excellent standards of governance, secretariat and ministerial support.

This role leads an established team of experts who develop, coordinate and continuously improve governance systems and processes while also delivering effective ministerial servicing and official correspondence.

The Manager will work closely with senior leaders and key stakeholders to ensure that governance systems are compliant, transparent and aligned with core objectives and outcomes.

Key accountabilities include:

- Lead the development and maintenance of fit-for-purpose processes, templates and systems to support governance and ministerial functions.
- Provide strategic support in preparing ministerial briefings and ensuring that ministerial requests and parliamentary inquiries are addressed accurately and within expected timeframes.
- Manage executive scheduling, prepare and organise important strategic materials and plans, and support internal and external meetings, including the preparation of meeting materials and minutes.
- Collaborate with other functions to align governance and ministerial servicing efforts with core objectives and outcomes.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, agencies and Ministerial offices.
- Represent the Crown Response Office in function related interagency working groups.
- Lead and develop the team ensuring high performance and quality results through clear direction, support and collaboration.
- Oversee the scheduling and coordination of ministerial engagements, meetings and inquiries to support seamless ministerial operations.
- Provide advice and support to the General Manager Enabling Services and other senior leaders on governance issues.

You will bring:

- Tertiary qualification in public policy, public administration, law or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Expert understanding of the machinery of government and public sector accountability processes.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and discretion.
- Experience working/communicating with the Office of a Minister.
- Strong leadership and people management capability, including mentoring and performance development.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a high degree of attention to detail.
- Sound political and organisational judgement.

This position is a fixed term or secondment opportunity until 30 June 2027.

The full-time salary for this role starts at $164,759 and is negotiable depending on skills and experience.

Applications will close at 5pm on Sunday 29 June 2025.
