Help shape the future of Education
At Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga | the Ministry of Education, we work together to shape an education system that delivers equitable and excellent outcomes.
Our organisation is made up of more than 4,000 talented and committed people around New Zealand, from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures.
While we work in different groups and on different things, we all strive every day to make the biggest difference we can for every child, young person and adult student in our education system.
Our work helps to ensure te Tāhuhu is a transparent, accessible and accountable organisation that provides a high-quality service to the Government and the wider public.
About our group and team

We work at the interface between te Tāhuhu, Ministers' offices and Parliament, and our team includes the Portfolio Private Secretaries in our Ministers' offices.
GEMS leads the development of strategically sound responses to correspondence and information requests, including:

- Chief Executive's correspondence
- Ministerial correspondence
- Ombudsman investigations
- Official Information Act requests
- Parliamentary questions
- Select Committee questions (including the Estimates and Annual Review).

Mō tēnei tūranga | About this role

The core focus of the Advisor role is answering written parliamentary questions, responding to Ombudsman investigations, preparing written responses for the Annual Review, Estimates Examination and information requests from Select Committees, reporting to Ministers and supporting the lodgement of Cabinet papers.
You will work closely with business groups to deliver rounded responses that reflect the values of te Tāhuhu and Ministers' preferences and priorities, align with the Education Work Programme and adhere to Standing Orders and the Cabinet Manual.
Mōhou ake | About you
You will have a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn. To be successful in the role, you'll work collaboratively with stakeholders, develop relationships at all levels, critically assess information presented to you, and effectively communicate your ideas orally and through high-quality written advice.
