Please note - this role is known internally as 'Lead Data Architect' to reflect thought leadership and occasional leadership to contracted architects/vendors and is a permanent role located from either our Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch offices

What you'll be doing - Te whakamahereDue to the growth of our digital and data strategy, we now have a new and exciting opportunity for a Data Architect to join NZTE. As the Data Architect for NZTE, you'll be responsible for creating, maintaining, and communicating the data architecture strategy including developing enterprise-wide standards and high-level information structures and meta models.
The Data Architect roles requires a brilliant combination of technical data expertise and stakeholder relationship engagement expertise. You'll spend approximately 70% of your time on the technical element of this job and the other 30% spent providing guidance, advice and consulting services to stakeholders on the best data practises.
**You'll also be responsible for**:
- Setting the data architectural direction for NZTE, including developing our long-term vision and guiding principles for Data, Information, Knowledge and Analytics based on the direction of our strategy.
- Designing, maintaining, and optimising NZTE's Data Lake, Data Warehouse (e.g. Data Vault 2.0), Data marts (dimensional models, relational models), Data Acquisition, ETL Processes, Data API, Data Analytics, Visualisation and Reporting architecture.
- Driving the solution development and documentation of data solution designs, ensuring that best practise architectural processes are adhered to.
- Providing technical governance and coaching, ensuring that our teams have appropriate architectural guardrails for their work.
What you'll need to be successful | Ō PūkengaYou'll have experience as an Architect, with hands-on experience with working with data at scale, have extensive quantitative research experience and have been responsible for setting the data architectural direction for a mid-sized organisation. You'll have a wide breadth of experience with data modelling, business intelligence and using different data warehouses and data marts environments and won't be afraid to get your hands dirty when required - it will be advantageous if you have a postgraduate or higher qualification in Computer Science, Data Science, Economics, Econometrics, Applied Statistics, or related discipline.
You'll be insightful, proactive, have a curious mindset and bring strong coaching and advising qualities to ensure that we are adhering to best data practices. You'll have a knack of adapting your communication style to your audience and instinctively deliver information and data in a visually interesting way that tells a clear story. This role will see you working across the business and different stakeholders, so having a strong ability to build strong stakeholder relationships is essential.
You'll also have a continuous improvement and a problem-solving mind-set which can be distilled into pragmatic technical requirements and be an advocate for best ways of working. Strong attention to detail is a given in this role, as is the ability to use influencing skills to help coach, advise and bring others along on the journey.
