**Mō te tūranga | About the role**
We are seeking an experienced and strategic leader to join the Faculty of Health and Environmental Sciences as our Head of Academic Office. This pivotal role leads academic quality assurance, academic development, and student lifecycle governance across the Faculty.
You will be responsible for the oversight and enhancement of academic governance systems, programme development processes, and academic integrity, while ensuring alignment with University and Faculty priorities — particularly our strong commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and equitable student success.
As a senior advisor to the Faculty Leadership Team, you will work closely with the Associate Dean Academic and other leaders across AUT. You will also represent the Faculty in engagements with internal and external accreditation and regulatory bodies, playing a key role in shaping the academic direction of the Faculty.

You are a trusted leader who brings deep experience in academic governance and strategy. You have the ability to lead people and systems through complexity, with a commitment to partnership and continuous improvement. Gaining trust and building strong relationships across the Faculty and wider University will be essential, as you work to influence, advise and lead both operational and strategic change.
You bring a demonstrated understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and how it informs your leadership, decision-making, and engagement with staff, students, and curriculum development. Your approach is collaborative, inclusive, and grounded in integrity.
Experience in change management and an ability to lead with influence and clarity will be essential in this role.
**Mō ngā pūkenga | Qualifications and experience**
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Significant experience in academic governance, quality assurance, and programme development within a university context.
- Proven strategic and operational leadership, including team and people management.
- A deep and active understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and how it shapes tertiary education.
- Experience working in a complex, matrixed environment, with strong relationship management skills.
- Experience or capability in change leadership and continuous improvement initiatives would be desirable.
- A relevant postgraduate qualification is required.

The Academic Office plays a central role in enabling high-quality teaching, learning, and student outcomes, supported by strong partnerships across AUT's academic and professional services teams.
