Mō tēnei tūranga | About this role
The Chief Advisor Senior Secondary is responsible for providing high quality, strategic advice and thought leadership to the Manager, Senior Secondary in relation to the design and delivery of curriculum and assessment policy, tools, and services.
A focus of the Chief Advisor is on prioritising the work programmes and providing input into the work of the Ministry to ensure all products are relevant and fit for purpose.
- Contribute to an effective team with a positive approach.
- Lead the resolution of issues, identifying risks and solutions.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of innovative and fit-for purpose solutions and frameworks for current and future challenges.
- Develop and use data and insights to make evidence-based decisions and recommendations on operational issues.
- Build capability in others through coaching, quality assurance, and proactively sharing knowledge and expertise.
- Lead collaborative working relationships within Te Poutāhū, across the Ministry and key stakeholders.
- Co-ordinate and engage with working groups, sector meetings, forums and interagency meetings as required to support delivery of the work programme.
- Support and help develop and induct Te Poutāhū staff.

Mōhou ake | About you
To be successful in this role you will be agile and able to work independently to achieve defined objectives. You will be adept at handling ambiguity and complexity and take pride in producing high quality work. You will also be a skilled facilitator and be comfortable working with a diverse range of stakeholders and representing the Ministry. You will bring proven capability in using data and insights to identify trends, risks, and opportunities to influence and guide organisational and system-level decision making, as well as superior writing skills.
You will demonstrate knowledge of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori and be able to articulate your understanding of mana ōrite mo te mātauranga Māori. You will also have an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.
