**_The role/Te mahi_**

As a Trades Assistant within the Mechanical Engineering department, you will work closely with the Mechanical Engineering Team to help deliver high-quality mechanical, engineering, HVAC work on a wide variety of buildings and spaces across the University campus.

You will work with the Trades Services team to complete a maintenance schedule for the care of our buildings and grounds.

**_Skills and experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheako_**

Ideally you will have previous experience in a mechanical trade with knowledge of basic hand tool use.

Your general workshop skills will be of great use in this position, as you work alongside Facilities Coordinator’s and other trade groups to deliver customer focused maintenance and repair work.
- Be physically fit and able to complete manual work.
- Have strong communication and written skills.
- Be cooperative, with a positive attitude to work and a desire to learn more.
- Have experience in health and safety best practice.

Property Services is responsible for buildings with a replacement cost of NZ$2.5 billion, and more than 22,000 hectares of land. With over 3,500 University Staff and 20,000 students, it can be a bit like helping to run a small town.

We deploy, support and maintain a wide and exciting array of equipment and facilities including state-of-the-art research laboratories, large student accommodation facilities, and a variety of multi-use space from teaching facilities through to restaurant and café venues.

This is a permanent, full time (40 hours week) position.
