University Flats (UniFlats) allows residents to have an independent and enjoyable lifestyle whilst providing them with an umbrella of pastoral care and good property management. Additionally, we seek to enrich our residents’ campus life through a dynamic community support program by providing opportunities for students to connect with others.

The University Flats' community is enhanced through a variety of events and functions eg: sports teams (volleyball, basketball, soccer, and rowing). There is also participation in athletic days, swimming competitions and an intercollege music competition. Uni Flats run a variety of cultural events such as museum and marae (Maori meeting house) visits and a series of dinners for students living in the flats.

This Trade Assistant position represents an exciting opportunity within The University of Otago.

Supporting our extensive Student Accommodation portfolio, we are currently looking for a Trade Assistant to join the UniFlats property team within Campus and Collegiate Life Services Division. With a large student rental portfolio, you will work with the wider UniFlats team, to enrich the lives of students, employees and visitors by providing an environment that is safe, fit for purpose and integrated to enhance student and learning experiences.
- The Trade Assistant works as a key member of the UniFlats Property team, responsible for the following:

- Work to deliver safe and future-focused minor works projects and maintenance.
- Conduct and assist with building compliance related checks.
- Attend to faults and defects, minimising risk and inconvenience to building occupants.
- Familiarity with mechanical, heating, electrical and compliance systems and the ability to report on defects for attendance by suitably qualified trades people.
- Assist with general daily maintenance, grounds maintenance, waste and recycling management.
- Be available to respond to emergencies such as mechanical breakdown of heating and plumbing services, or other operating systems in the college.

Key tasks will include providing an efficient and courteous service to students and staff. You will assist the UniFlats Property team to deliver excellent, client-focused services to enhance the experience of students and staff.

- The successful applicant will have:

- Prior experience in trade related activity, construction, mechanical, painting or similar.
- Ability to undertake general maintenance repairs to selected items and equipment.
- Knowledge of basic hand tool use.
- General workshop and construction skills.
- Experience in health and safety best practice.
- A full Drivers licence.
