Korero mō te tūranga - About the role
Te Aka Whai Ora is the primary source of strategy and policy for Hauora Māori, leading the identification and monitoring of equitable health outcomes, development of the Māori health workforce, and the direct commissioning of kaupapa Māori services. Our whāinga is to achieve greater Māori participation in the design and delivery of health services for the betterment of all. We play a critical role in enhancing Māori rangatiratanga, ensuring equitable access to healthcare and supporting whānau to take control of their own health and wellbeing. We work in close partnership with the Manatū Hauora (Ministry of Health, MOH) and Te Whatu Ora (Health NZ) and enable Iwi Māori Partnerships Boards (IMPBs), Māori health providers, iwi, hapū and Māori communities to achieve Māori health aspirations.
The Oranga Hinengaro (Mental Health and Addictions) Group is responsible for progressing initiatives and actions that improve hauora Māori through effective planning, commissioning, and monitoring of local, regional and national initiatives, contracts and programs targeted at hauora Māori, increased capacity, growth and development and equity for Māori within the Mental Health and Addictions sector. We work closely with Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand, Manatū Hauora - Ministry of Health, Government and non-Government agencies and the wider sector to achieve these outcomes.
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience
- Minimum bachelor's degree level tertiary qualification and/or equivalent work experience
- Minimum 6 - 8 years' work experience highly relevant to role
- Māori leadership experience and ability to work with and influence senior leaders and decision-makers to achieve organisational objectives.
- Experience in leading transformational systems change with respect to implementing Te Tiriti o Waitangi
- Experience in leading projects / initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi
- Willingness to personally take a stand for equity and anti-racism
