HR Business Partner - it starts with you
- Seeking x2 experienced HR Business Partners
- 12-month pilot opportunity/Fixed Term
- Grade 21 (Salary starting from $124,015)
- One Wellington based and one in either Wellington or Auckland
- Partner with senior leaders with dynamic portfolios
- Assist in standing up the HR Business Partnering Function for NZ Police
About the roles
We are seeking two experienced HR Business Partners to work alongside our executive business leaders, becoming their trusted advisor, and making sure that our people are at the centre of our decisions and actions we take. Operating at a strategic level, you will provide an objective view, offering insight and input into the development of business strategy and acting as a strategic liaison between senior business leaders and HR Advisory.
Your specialist advice will be sought on a range of complex people issues and organisational development initiatives, aligned to business priorities. You will influence senior leaders and others within their portfolios by developing and maintaining trusted and effective relationships.
The HR Business Partners are key members of the HR Advisory leadership team and work collaboratively to ensure a seamless approach in shaping and delivering the HR work programme along with key partners such as the Leadership and Capability work groups. HR Business Partnering is new for Police, and your experience will assist in standing up this critical function successfully.

This is not an entry level role and you will have proven experience in a senior HR business partner role and demonstrate the following skills:
- experience engaging and demonstrated trusted and influential advisory experience with partners and stakeholders at a strategic level
- effective communication techniques, both written and oral
- critical thinking and problem-solving skills to make sound decisions and judgement
- proven experience asking questions and evaluating evidence and ideas, to create insight and understand the whole
- ability to identify and proactively manage or escalate risk
- understanding of our key responsibilities under our employment agreements, the Health and Safety at Work Act and our people focused policies
This role is set at Individual Contributor level, this means your key purpose is “to deliver or enable others to deliver Our Business”.
We will ask you questions based on “How we will deliver Our Business - Core Competencies” and the appropriate role level, i.e. Individual Contributor.
These questions will be unique and specific to the role, focusing on the aspects the hiring manager believes are most important for that position at the time.
