The Ministry for Primary Industries are currently recruiting for a Principal Adviser to join our People & Capability directorate, which forms part of Corporate Services business unit based in Wellington.

Kōrero mō te Tūranga - About the Role
As part of the People & Capability Leadership team, as Principal Adviser you will provide strategic advice and thought leadership to the Director People & Capability to support the delivery of work programmes.
You will work alongside the Director by maintaining oversight of agreed strategic projects and initiatives, assist the leadership team by providing input into strategic documents, and contribute to service design and improvement projects.

**The key accountabilities of this position include**:

- Leading and facilitating the development and delivery of business cases, strategies, plans, and annual review processes
- Maintaining oversight of all directorate reporting requirements; working with the Director and the Leadership team to ensure these are met, including leading the development of processes and systems to enable delivery
- Assisting the leadership team by providing input into analysis of directorate operations and the identification and management of risks and opportunities
- Contributing to the development of workshops, working groups, external meetings, and investigations related to directorate operations
- Contributing to budget planning and reporting, ensuring budget is managed appropriately and stays within resource and budget limits
- Contributing to the development and delivery of the MPI People Strategy and work programme

Mōu - About You
To be successful in this role, you will have experience and working knowledge of the New Zealand government business environment and MPI's strategic priorities.
Your experience will also include the development and implementation of organisational strategies and plans, within the public sector, across a range of work programmes.
Importantly, you will have substantial experience developing and maintaining effective working relationships, both internally and externally, along with strong communication, presentation, and project management skills. You will also have excellent judgement and analytical skills, the confidence to make decisions under pressure and within tight deadlines, and the ability to work within a varied and complex environment.
