Paediatric Disability Social Worker

The Paediatric Disability Social Work team provides psychosocial assessment and intervention to support successful adaptation to diagnosis. We also support people during periods of grief, loss, and relationship support; family violence assessment and intervention, crisis intervention and the management of difficult and complex family situations. Services are provided from Monday to Friday.
**Important Skills**
The successful applicant will possess:
- Relevant Social Work degree, SWRB registration and annual practicing certificate
- Experience working in the paediatric health sector
- Knowledge of health disorders and conditions as they relate to paediatric and developmental disability
- Knowledge of medico-legal issues
- Experience and ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team, utilising individual and professional skills and competencies to the fullest
- Knowledge of community networks, disability support services and resources relevant to paediatrics
- Effective written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
- A commitment to on-going personal and professional development and service improvement
- A knowledge of the Privacy Act and other relevant legislation affecting the delivery of services generally
- Self-motivated and uses initiative
- A commitment to cultural competence
- A current New Zealand Driver Licence
- Able to work independently without close supervision
- Computer literacy
- Meets the statutory and organisational requirements for working with children, as per the Children's Act 2014 and MidCentral policy, including satisfactory police check and other safety checking processes
**Desirable Competencies**:
- Familiarity or experience in a Child Development Service. Working with children and families and support networks within a hospital and the community settings
- A knowledge of relevant health and disability sector legislation
- Experience in the field of rehabilitation of young children with disability
- Strong innovative qualities
- Counselling experience and /or qualification
- Experience in service development/continuous quality improvement
- Membership of Aotearoa New Zealand Association of Social Workers (ANZASW)
