**About the Role**

As a member of the Residential Building Team, you'll be responsible for reviewing and inspecting residential building consents across the district, ensuring compliance with legislation and supporting safe building outcomes for our community.

Key aspects of the role include:

- Processing a wide range of residential building consents
- Providing advice and expertise on Building Act matters to applicants and internal teams
- Communicating with agents, architects, licensed building practitioners, and applicants — often under pressure — to solve problems and provide clear guidance
- Supporting an integrated approach to customer service by collaborating with other departments (e.g., planning, property, plumbing, and drainage)
- Maintaining competency through technical audits and our biannual competency framework
- Staying up to date with legislative changes and adapting to new systems and processes

This is a highly autonomous role, but you'll be part of a supportive and collaborative team where help is always available, and your contribution is valued.

**About You**

You'll also bring:

- A NZ Diploma in Building Surveying (Level 6) or equivalent NZ qualification with current R2 or R3 competence
- Ability to make technical decisions using sound judgement in a timely manner, risk analysis, and research
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and time management skills
- A current Class 1 New Zealand driver's licence
