**Te Whiwhinga Mahi | The opportunity**

The Business Manager position is the source of business administration and management expertise for Governance Puni.

They are responsible for ensuring the Office of the Deputy Secretary runs smoothly. This requires regularly scanning the environment to ensure ongoing management of business-as-usual tasks, as well as reacting to priority matters as they arise.

The Business Manager provides high calibre, intelligent support to work programmes and personnel in the Puni. Reporting to the Deputy Secretary Governance, this role has core areas of focus including:

- Co-ordinating information and issues on behalf of the Deputy Secretary Governance.
- Providing practical management of strategic planning, budgetary and financial management processes (working with the strategy and finance teams).
- Provide secretarial and administrative support to the Puni and Deputy Secretary, including drafting and reviewing memoranda, correspondence, travel, and some calendar and diary management.
- Providing future-focused advice on governance and management issues in the Puni - including identifying, developing, and implementing changes as needed.
- Working collaboratively and flexibly as the work arises.

This role may also provide executive support to the Secretary for Māori Development as needed (for example, in the absence of the Executive Officer). This element of the role requires planning ahead and anticipating the needs of the Secretary to ensure they are able to carry out their role with ease.

The salary band for this role is $104,056 - $138,741 with a mid-point of $115,617. The likely appointment range is $104,056 - $115,617 based on skills and experience.

- Able to manage both reactive and proactive work with the ability to prioritise appropriately.
- Proven experience managing complex and multiple relationships to take full advantage of the perspectives and expertise of stakeholders.
- Excellent comprehension and verbal communications skills.
- A high level of commitment to detail, quality, thoroughness and delivery.
- Strong understanding of te ao Māori and a degree of fluency in te reo Māori.
- Experience in working with iwi, hapū, whānau, Māori organisations and Māori communities.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in a complex and politically sensitive environment.
- Understanding of the relevance of the Treaty of Waitangi to the work being undertaken.
- Any experience in project management is highly desirable.
