Lead our strategic relationship programme and business development activity to assist in developing a forward work program of standards development for New Zealand.

Standards New Zealand is the National Standards body in New Zealand and a business unit within Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment. We facilitate the creation of standards which help govern the performance that products and services in New Zealand should live up to. Due to the business development nature of this role, we are looking for a highly driven, dynamic, business savvy professional who has a proven track record of developing strong senior relationships across government and industry to secure new commissioned work that supports mutually beneficial outcomes. Bringing an established network in the New Zealand Government and experience engaging across all levels of government will bring significant value add.

The Sector Engagement and Business Development Lead is responsible for growing Standards New Zealand’s commissioned standards development and partnership activities within government and industry to assist in developing a forward program of work. The role has the key responsibility to develop new business and strong relationships, identify opportunities and present viable and innovative standards solutions and services to meet current and future needs. This will involve identifying opportunities where standards can play a greater role and undertaking effective business development activities with regulators and industry bodies.

**What you’ll do**:
Representing Standards New Zealand positively and articulating Standards New Zealand’s value proposition strongly, you will:

- Strategic engagement and business development activity with regulators and industry to build strong effective relationships in order to identify and develop new standard services and a forward work program
- Lead the development and achievement of revenue growth projections, and help negotiate contractual agreements to meet revenue targets
- Proactively identify opportunities, shape solutions and secure new commissioned work to directly align with Standards New Zealand Business Strategy and financial objectives
- Lead the planning and development of approaches and proposals that address stakeholder needs, concerns, and objectives, including identifying and pricing the solution and/or service, presenting new products and service offerings and/or solutions
- Attend and present at industry meetings, events and conferences as required, and provide feedback and information on trends and opportunities
- Support the wider Standards New Zealand team with stakeholder liaison and business development to deliver Standards New Zealand products and services
- Contribute to fostering an innovative and entrepreneurial culture within Standards New Zealand

- 5+ years experience in high-level stakeholder engagement and business development
- Strong influencing and persuasion skills, with the ability to identify and position strategic solutions with senior clients
- Understand current government, sector specific, social, environmental, and economic trends, issues, markets and organisations to help identify feasible business development opportunities, and successfully engage and develop new business relationships.
- Driving outcomes and managing diverse stakeholder interests
- Understanding of government and regulatory systems is preferable
- Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills and ability to articulate complex messages clearly, simply and concisely
- Demonstrated ability to quickly assimilate new areas of work
- Demonstrate excellent organisational and time management skills
- Proven ability to quickly develop trust and credibility, and to establish and build working relationships, within the organisation and in relevant sectors
