At Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga | Ministry of Education, we work to provide services and support nationally, regionally, and locally to the education sector, and in some cases, directly to ākonga and whānau.

We help shape the policies, settings, and performance of the education system for early learning, schooling, and tertiary. We do this by building relationships and understanding the needs of those who receive our services.

**About our group and team**

Te Mahau | Te Tai Whenua (Central) is a frontline group. Our frontline groups collectively provide leadership and integrated services to the education sector and young children/students and whānau. This includes services such as learning support and education advice, and regulation functions for kōhanga, early learning, kura and schools.

As a frontline group we develop and harness existing relationships with communities at the regional and local level, including deep relationships with iwi and hapū.

We also collectively strengthen relationships with our diverse communities who support Māori, Pacific peoples, disabled ākonga and/or ākonga with learning support needs, and ākonga from disadvantaged backgrounds.

**We have a vacancy for another Senior Education Adviser based in our Hamilton Office.**

This roles requires proven recent leadership/management experience in early childhood education. The Senior Education Adviser ECE implements the early childhood initiatives across the Waikato region, supporting the translation of policy into day-to-day implementation work including project planning, risk management, monitoring, and evaluation.

**You will play a key role**:

- maintaining an overview of the direction and implementation of the project plans/work plans across the early childhood education portfolio of work, working to ensure goals are achieved.
- Maintain an understanding of the legislative and regulatory framework for early childhood education and ngā kōhanga reo to enable the provision of sound advice both internally and externally
- interpreting regulations, criteria and providing guidance to the early childhood sector and ngā kōhanga reo for licensing and certification requirements
- accessing data and other evidence to identify priority areas in the network to improve participation in early childhood
- providing successful planning and negotiation, management and completion of contracts aligned with Ministry guidelines for contracting
- providing accountability for the monitoring and implementation of projects working with internal and external stakeholders
- taking responsibility for a specific content to lead
- working with communities to identify the needs and possible solutions to increase participation in quality early childhood
- ensuring consistent and systematic use of national and regional business processes that support effective and consistent delivery
- Working collaboratively with colleagues across teams to ensure children and their families/whānau are successful in education.

**For the role, we expect you to bring experience in**:
Proven **recent and current leadership/management practice in early learning/kōhanga reo **and a thorough knowledge of all relevant legislation pertaining to the early childhood/kōhanga reo sector and a working knowledge of Te Whāriki, Early Childhood Education Curriculum and or Te Whāriki a Te Kōhanga Reo; You will also need to bring experience in:

- analysing both qualitative and quantitative information to provide meaningful performance reports
- written communication reflecting accuracy and clarity
- problem solving and strategic and creative thinking
- maintaining professional relationship both internally and externally
- data analysis, spreadsheets and project management skills or contract management experience.
