Archives New Zealand plays a vital role in ensuring public and local authority records are properly managed and preserved to support democratic accountability and long-term access to government information. The **Archives Audit Specialist**helps lead that work through the development and delivery of a proactive audit programme.
In this role, you’ll design and deliver audits that go beyond compliance to assess the maturity and effectiveness of recordkeeping practices across the public sector. You’ll work with public offices to identify risks, highlight opportunities for improvement, and support a shift toward more strategic, value-driven information management.
**What we’re looking for**
We’re seeking an experienced professional with a strong background in information management, recordkeeping, auditing or information governance, and a commitment to public accountability. You’ll bring:
- Experience conducting audits, evaluations or assessments of information or records management
- Experience advising or supporting agencies to improve information management capability
- Excellent analytical skills and the ability to identify risks and trends across systems and agencies
- Strong stakeholder engagement and report writing skills, including the ability to provide actionable and context-sensitive recommendations
- Familiarity with digital recordkeeping challenges and emerging trends in information management or archives
- A collaborative approach and confidence engaging with public offices, local authorities, Māori partners, and sector peers
- Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and a commitment to working in a way that honours the Crown’s responsibilities
This role would suit someone who is methodical, principled, and driven to make a long-term difference to how government recordkeeping supports transparency, accountability and trust.
