The Immigration Risk and Border branch within Immigration New Zealand provides up-to-date intelligence and information to advise to support sound strategic and operational decision making at all levels across the immigration system.

We are looking for a Manager Risk Assessment to join our Risk and Verification team.

**The Manager Risk Assessment will**:

- Be responsible for the direct leadership of a team of Risk Profiling Analysts, for customer and stakeholder relationship management and the delivery of quality risk assessments that inform visa and refugee decisions.
- Responsible for setting the strategic direction of the team and enhancing system performance.
- Be responsible for the provision of robust advice on the potential risk of an applicant to New Zealand’s international reputation, in accordance with character policy, which deals with an applicant’s association with war crimes against humanity, and/or gross human rights abuses.
- Counter-proliferation risk assessments.
- Responsible for enhancing people and team performance and developing talent to ensure quality consistency of advice and team practices that deliver results for customers.

To be successful in this role, you will need to be able to demonstrate that you have experience in, or have the qualities that would enable you to successfully perform, the following tasks:

- Proven experience in leading, developing and managing a high performing team.
- In-depth knowledge of and interest in geo-political climates and international affairs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of effective service delivery models and service excellence principles.
- Ability to understand team dynamics and to realise the potential of individual team members through effective coaching and mentoring.
- Proven ability to develop trust, credibility and effective relationships with staff and a diverse range of colleagues, customers and stakeholders.
- Highly developed research and analytical skills demonstrated through quality risk identification and management, risk profiling and associated outputs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the functions, philosophies, and operational practices of Immigration New Zealand (and in particular, the operating environment of the role) - or the ability to quickly acquire said knowledge.
