The Senior Environment and Sustainability Advisor is a key role within Downer’s newly formed trans-Tasman Environment and Sustainability team. This role reports to the Environment and Sustainability Manager, Transport and Infrastructure (NZ) and will include opportunities to work collaboratively with environment and sustainability professionals across Aotearoa New Zealand and Australia.

**The primary objectives of this role is to**:

- Provide environment and sustainability support for Downer New Zealand Infrastructure Projects, with a focus on supporting our major projects and Hawkins business to achieve environment and sustainability best practice
- Coordinate work winning and project start up responses including identification of high risk/opportunity, approvals and project costings and development of project specific environmental management plans.
- Coordinate and provide oversight of the environment and sustainability compliance obligations including advice and support for the delivery of projects/ contract in addition to the management of fixed assets and fleet.
- Lead environmental incident response and investigation requirements.
- Provide SME advice on high risk environmental requirements including erosion and sediment control, dewatering, working in waterways and compliance with resource consent conditions and related resource management legislation.
- Promote environmentally safe working practices and provide leadership and training.
- Drive sustainability best practice outcomes aligned to Downer sustainability commitments, client and stakeholder expectations.
- Ensure the business is aligned to regulatory, ISO14001 and Downer standards.
- The position will work closely with the Downer Environment and Sustainability Leadership and Operational Leaders.

**Nga pūkenga matua | Important Skills**
- Tertiary Qualifications (Degree, Master etc) in Environmental Science/ Engineering/ Energy / Management, Sustainability or similar.
- Greater than 5 years of relevant experience.
- Experience working on major construction / infrastructure projects
- High level of understanding of NZ environmental legislation.
- Proven ability to manage multiple approvals in different jurisdictions at once.
- Strong knowledge in managing project environmental aspects and associated risks.
- Sound level of sustainability knowledge for site level delivery.
- Ability to influence all levels of staff and managers.
- Demonstrated skills in environmental approvals and management on major projects.
