**What you’ll be doing**:
You are responsible for producing and leading the production of designs for New Zealand’s national broadband network. Chorus maintains an unlimited, uncongested, gigabit wholesale network essential to homes, businesses and telecommunications operators - both fixed and mobile - nationwide.
This is a principal engineering role for the selection and design of solutions to meet the needs of, and solve the problems within Chorus’ networks. Detailed technologies in your remit include access networks (Copper and Fibre), and the network design requirements at the physical layer to support Chorus network technologies, products and services that operate across these networks.
You will lead and co-ordinate the research, creation, updating and maintenance of engineering solutions for the Chorus network. You be a critical part of a team of highly technical network design engineers.

**What you’ll bring to the table**:
- Translation of architectures into detailed designs for the Layer 1 Physical network.
- Ensuring that designs are optimized for Chorus
- Ensuring that designs comply with all appropriate regulatory and commercial obligations
- Providing engineering consultancy to the investment and lifecycle management process in your domain
- Engineering and design consultancy to other Chorus functions as appropriate
- Assisting with the selection of appropriate technology and vendors
- Oversight and governance of vendors when and if they are used
- Ensuring that designs and implementation meets our operational requirements
- Ensuring that design and operational documentation is consistent with Chorus standards
- Seek out international industry best practices and products and oversee trials and pilots of new design and deployment practices and techniques to ensure optimal quality practices are maintained and communicated
- Provide innovation and advice to manufacturers and suppliers on solutions for the Chorus network
- Investigate new deployment and network design opportunities and develop recommendations for introduction, or not, supported by robust analysis and evaluation against network design and architecture standards
- Support training requirements and implementation activities to introduce new technologies and deployment practices
- Be the primary engineering interface to Chorus for your specialist domain(s)
- Be a trusted engineering interface to Assure and Operations for complex technical customer problems
- Be a trusted engineering interface to Crown Infrastructure Partners
- Be a trusted engineering interface to network equipment and services vendors
- Be a trusted engineering interface to Chorus’ customers
**A role like this is for someone with a great deal of know-how and can-do. To succeed, you’ll need**:
- Leadership of virtual teams
- Proven ability to be a trusted delegate
- Ability to communicate and engage with senior stakeholders
- Leadership of design and delivery of Telco infrastructure with 10 years + experience
- Relevant Tertiary qualifications and Industry certifications and training
- Hands on detailed design of network solutions and services
- Deployment of network solutions
- Integration of networks with management and other northbound systems
