**Assistant Accountant**
The purpose of the Assistant Account role is to assist the Finance Manager on an ongoing basis; including assistance with various internal and external financial reporting requirements of the NZ Group, monitoring of local cash requirements and debtor reporting
**Key Responsibilities**:
Financial Accounting and Reporting - 50%
- Provide financial accounting and reporting support to the Corporate Accounting team.
- Prepare reconciliations of various general ledger accounts ensuring un-reconciled items are cleared promptly and within established standards.
- Monitor completion of all GL reconciliations on a monthly basis to ensure all GL owners have completed reconciliations on a timely basis.
- Enter monthly journals provided by Treasury and PMO.
- Monthly analysis of software development expenditure ensuring all capital expenditure is recorded on the balance sheet.
- Prepare various quarterly and annual statistics returns.
- Assist in the year end reporting process by completing various Group Disclosure Pack Schedules and inputting financial statements into Caseware.
- Ensuring Lease Make Good Provision is updated and reconciled with the Property team on a monthly basis.
- Participate in work rotation within or outside Corporate Accounting team as part of ongoing development and training.
Cash Management - 20%
- Preparation of daily cashflow report and monthly cashflow forecasting.
- Ensuring payables bank account is sufficiently funded on a daily basis.
- Ongoing interaction with Canterbury claims team to ensure all large EQ claims are forecasted and allowed for.
- Ensuring bank counterparty limits are not breached.
- Ensuring quarterly dividend payments are processed on a timely basis.
Debtors Reporting - 20%
- Preparation of monthly debtor’s journal entries.
- Ensure debtor’s accounts are reconciled monthly and any variances followed up on immediately.
- Ensuring all supporting debtors reporting is produced to support debtors account and reconciliation.
- Co-Insurance reconciliations and payment verification.
- Quarterly broker debtor reporting for inclusion in ALCO Board papers.
Contribute to Excellent Customer Care - 5%
- Proactively contribute to improve the image and outcomes of the company within the marketplace to the external customer as well as provide excellent internal customer service.
Sustainability - 5%
- Contribute to IAG NZ’s action plan for sustainable growth by promoting the sustainability initiatives and developing unit actions that assist the organisation to achieve its sustainability goals. Financial Responsibilities
**Skills & Experience**:
Industry and/or field experience
- Good working knowledge of accounting and generally accepted accounting principles.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and experience with accounting software.
- Analytical, numerate and attention to detail.
- Experience in financial accounting and corporate reporting environment.
- Commerce/Business degree.

- Ability to handle pressure and meet deadlines.
- Proactive in establishing own objectives and monitoring progress
- Flexible and ability to work in a team environment. Showcasing good interpersonal and communication skills.
