**About the role**:
The Assistant Accountant will support our Accounts department with the day-to-day financial affairs of Simple Machines. They will be responsible for the administrative duties of all areas of finance including, but not limited to, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and credit card reporting.

Responsibilities include:

- Support with the day to day, monthly and annual accounting activities.
- Process accounts receivable invoicing and all related tasks on a fortnightly basis. This includes maintaining our time sheeting system to ensure submission deadlines have been met. Ensuring client payments are not overdue.
- Regularly chase debtors for outstanding payments.
- Process accounts payable invoicing and all related tasks on a regular basis, ensuring payment due dates are met.
- Process and reconcile all company credit cards and staff reimbursements, ensuring payment due dates are met.
- Process and reconcile AU & NZ payroll on a fortnightly basis.
- Prepare monthly updates for the UK external payroll providers.
- Assist with monthly prepayments, accruals, journals, fixed assets and depreciation schedules.
- Assist with maintenance of the general ledger and reconciliation of accounts.
- Monitoring daily communications in the Accounts inbox and answering any queries.
- Provide back up support when the Senior Financial Accountant and/or Senior Management Accountant is on leave.
- Support the Accounts department with administrative support as requested.
- Provide support to the business with ad-hoc client requests as required.

**What we're looking for**:
A talented full-time Assistant Accountant to join us in our Christchurch office reporting to our Director of Finance. This role will suit someone who is commercially minded, is a self-starter and can work and solve problems autonomously in a fast-paced environment. You will be comfortable working with accounting packages like Xero and/or MYOB. You will bring a strong sense of ownership, responsibility, and accountability.

**Requirements**:

- Have at least 3-5 years’ experience in accounting.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in finance or accounting.
- Strong time management and prioritisation skills in a deadline driven environment.
- Good inter-personal skills and ability to build rapport with key stakeholders within the business.
