**Recreation Assistant - Basketball Referee | Stanmore Bay**

Situated in our Stanmore Bay Leisure Centre, as a Recreation Assistant, o two days will be the same You will help us deliver an exciting range of activities, school holiday programmes, and support all our activities at our centre including lifeguarding and reception tasks, referees for our basketball leagues from year 1 through to adults -** you do not need to be qualified, we can train you**

In this frontline role, your main responsibilities will include, assisting to deliver a fun and enjoyable holiday programme for children between the ages of 5-13 years, coaching sporting activities to young children, delivering exceptional service to our customers and visitors supporting the delivery of a variety of exciting programmes for children, helping the Centre maintain a caring, fun and safe fitness and leisure environment, providing assistance to Centre management with administration and operational duties; and supporting with Centre activities including sporting leagues and daily timetabled programmes.

In this frontline role you will also need to deliver an exceptional service to our customers and ensure the centre provides a safe and fun environment for all that attend.
- You must have some understanding of Basketball
- Responsible when working with children
- Have a 1st Aid certificate or be happy to attain one through council
- Understand health and safety procedures in relation to your role

**He kōrero mōu: About you**
You’ll already be passionate about sports and recreation, and ready to step into a frontline customer service role. It goes without saying that you’ll be responsible when it comes to working with children. You’ll have a flexible approach and be able to use your initiative to facilitate suitable programmes for kids. An enthusiastic team player, you’ll have a positive attitude and infectious energy, and be committed to providing your customers with an exceptional experience.

While previous experience working with children is beneficial, it’s not essential. Importantly, you’ll be committed to maintaining a high degree of professionalism in your work.

If you would like to be trained as a lifeguard, you will need to pass a swim test that consists of:

- Swim 200m freestyle in less than 6 minutes
- Swim 50m on any stroke
- Duck, dive and retrieve objects from the bottom of the pool (at 5m depth)
- Tread water for 5 minutes

We will provide ALL training for you free of charge and pay you to attend the training.

Ideally, you’ll hold a First Aid Certificate and understand health and safety procedures, however, we can provide training for this. While previous experience working with children is beneficial, it’s not essential. Importantly, you’ll be committed to maintaining a high degree of professionalism in your work.

By the same token, if we occasionally need some help in other areas such as at our front desk and general customer service duties, as a team member, you may be called on to cover these areas if short-staffed or at peak periods.

**Pay Rate: Starting Living Wage**
